Diamonté Harper, professionally known as Saweetie, started posting clips of her rapping on Instagram in 2016. The cover for Khia’s classic “My Neck, My Back (Lick It)” turned later into her first single “Icy Girl”, released on SoundCloud in 2017. Within a short period she was named Tidal’s Artist of the Week and one of Complex’s Pigeons & Planes-blog’s Best New Artists of the Month, featured in ad for Fenty Beauty – a cosmetic company owned by Rihanna – and signed a record deal with Warner Bros. Records.
Her major label debut was a nine track EP “High Maintenance”. “Icy Girl” was certified gold in summer 2018, around the same time she released “Up Now ft. G-Eazy and Rich The Kid”. Saweetie’s second album goes by the name “ICY”. The 7-track project was released at the end of March with a leading single “Emotional feat. Quavo”.
