About

Blockfest

Our story

When Blockfest was created back in 2008, hip hop culture was not dominant in Finland: no radio stations played hip hop music and no major music festivals booked such artists. Blockfest wanted to change this.

Over the years, Blockfest has played a pivotal role in the rise of Finnish hip hop culture. Both the genre and the festival itself have evolved from underground to more mainstream. The genre now dominates charts and Blockfest has established itself as one of the most major festivals in Finland. Blockfest has been nominated as Festival of the Year at the Industry Awards Gala five times and a record total of 75.500 people attended the music festival and other Blockfest events in 2019.

Artists who have taken the Blockfest stage over the years include Wu-Tang Clan, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Nas, A$AP Rocky, Wiz Khalifa, Post Malone, $uicideboy$, Migos, Lil Wayne, G-Eazy, Juice WRLD, Mobb Deep, Jaden Smith, Ferg, Big Sean, Tyga, T.I, Young Thug, Rick Ross, Ty Dolla $ign, Skepta, Bun B, Clipse, Tory Lanez, Talib Kweli and Mac Miller. Additionally, Blockfest has been the driving force behind bringing names as Kendrick Lamar and The Weeknd to Finland for their first shows.

Our aim

As we stand in the forefront of Finnish hip hop culture, we introduce the hottest artists, freshest trends, and latest news. We want to create memorable experiences with music in the core of everything we do.

Hip hop’s trailblazers, the freshest newcomers and already accomplished artists both local and international – the range of artists to take the stage at Blockfest’s events over the years is impressive. Every booking is made with quality at heart, music as the main priority.

Our community

Blockfest is a celebration of hip hop culture, its own universe, a world for like-minded people. It’s a safe space, a space to enjoy life, a space that unites people regardless of their age, gender, cultural background, religion, or superficial factors.

We do not condone racism or discrimination in any shape or form. Respecting others is essential for us. We do not tolerate violence, harassment, or any other aggressive behavior.

All decisions regarding the music festival are made with safety and functionality in mind. Blockfest wants to create an unforgettable experience for all festival guests which entails doing things differently than ever before.

The festival lives and breathes hip hop culture and keeps evolving, year after year. Progress never stops and neither does Blockfest.
